Identifying Belgian protein consumption typologies by means of clustering and classification to move towards personalized advices for sustainable and nutritious food choices

Protein sources are determinant for the environmental impact and nutritiousness of our food consumption patterns. Dietary advices, in terms nutritional values and, more recently, associated impacts, mostly formulated at nationwide level. However, actual patterns variable between individuals within nations, leading to a need personalized dietary advices ensure feasibility potential changes. This research addresses variability Belgian by identifying different “protein typologies”: consumer groups with frequencies protein sources. Hereto, both statistical clustering classification were applied data, latter using predefined criteria related meat consumption. The obtained typologies further analyzed based on personal characteristics compliance guidelines. Five clusters five classes identified, each survey participant belonging one cluster class. differed mainly milk- grain product intake, while intake products from onset.
